Future Sea Levels Store Decoration Project in San Francisco on Thursday, January 31, 2007

Within the next 100 years, global warming could raise ocean levels to damaging heights around the globe. In San Francisco, rising sea levels would impact our communities, our health, and our way of life. FutureSeaLevel.org is a collaborative art project designed to raise awareness of smart solutions to global warming and the consequence to future generations if we don't act now.

The San Francisco Chapter of Surfrider were so impressed with the last Future Sea Levels project around the city, that we've grabbed some of the marker tape and are spreading the word again on our own, tomorrow night!!!

Volunteers will meet at 5:00 P.M. at Java Beach near Ocean Beach, Great Highway and Judah. From there teams will dispatch to Aqua, Wise, Mollusk, and a number of other locations to decorate the outsides of their stores with signs and tape that will mark future sea levels. Your involvement will help others realize the depth of the issue of rising sea levels and global warming. All participating shops have already agreed and we have all the supplies; we just need a few good men and women (and children) to hit the ground for an hour or two to make it happen.

Future Sea Level is a project of the Sierra Club and SF Environment, a department of the City & County of San Francisco. Aquarium of the Bay funded 100% of the project's website. At Surfrider, we're always interested in topics such as this. If there's no more beaches and waves, it will certainly impact what we do!
