The Marine Life Protection Act Initiative is currently taking place on our stretch of the coast, from Pigeon Point in San Mateo County to Alder Creek in Mendocino County. The purpose of the Initiative is to put in place a network of marine protected areas (MPAs)--similar to state parks, but in the ocean--to protect an array of marine habitats, species, and special places.

The latest versions of the draft MPA proposals are viewable at http://www.dfg.ca.gov/mlpa/nccrsg-proposals.asp. Please come out and speak up for protected areas and make your voice heard on other important issues such as special closures that are proposed in your area (these closures are incorporated into the draft MPA proposals and supplemental documents).
