Offshore Oil Drilling Community Forum in SF on Wednesday, April 21, 2010

On Wed., 4/21, 7:00–8:00 PM, Surfrider Foundation and Environment California host a community forum to discuss the possible consequences of offshore oil drilling in California. The forum will be held at Sports Basement, 1590 Bryant St., SF.

Here is the information from Surfrider:

You are invited to an important event this Wednesday evening at Sports Basement. Come educate yourself on the plans to open our near coast environments to offshore oil and gas extraction. The California legislature will be voting on a bill that could allow drilling from the coastline – to three miles out. Please join us to learn why Surfrider thinks that it’s not the answer we need, and to take direct action to help our elected officials chose alternative, more environmentally friendly, options.

Thank you,

Michael Stewart, Vice Chair – SF Chapter / Surfrider Foundation

Join the Surfrider Foundation and Environment California to learn more about the threat of offshore oil drilling and why it’s not the answer!

For decades, our coasts were protected from offshore oil drilling, but in 2008 the Bush Administration, and Congress, allowed a ban on oil drilling to expire. Now, decision makers at the state and federal level are examining ways to open our coasts to offshore oil drilling.

To make matters worse, Assembly member Chuck DeVore (R- Irvine) has introduced dangerous legislation that would put California’s precious coastline in harms way. His plan would consider bids for new oil leases within California’s waters (within 3 miles of the coast). We can’t allow this to happen! Don’t miss your opportunity to attend our community forum and learn what is, and is not, being done to protect our coastline.
