Ocean Monk is a beautifully shot, mesmerizing short film that chronicles New York City monks who find deep meditation and spirituality while surfing The Big Apple’s breaks and the nearby beaches of Long Island. This group of athletic monks based in Queens – all students of the late Indian teacher, Sri Chinmoy, and of all various ages, incorporate their love for the ocean, its beauty and power in their search for enlightenment.

Shot in HD, Ocean Monk explores the ideals which drive their life as well as the pounding winter surf which sustains them. Features music from Sigur Ros. Appearances by Kelly Slater, Jack Johnson and Titus Kinimaka. Directed by Sanjay Rawal.

Shaped is a documentary film that pays tribute to the men and women of the surf world in the 1960s, working in the trenches, who all had a seminal had in shaping the future of surfing as we know it today. This handful of influential innovators had no idea at the time how their work would change the lives of millions of people through their innovative thinking and commitment to their craft.

This film features early and contemporary legends such as Robert August, Mickey Muñoz, The Meistrell brothers, Corky Carroll, Joyce Hoffman, Henry Ford, Mike Doyle, Bing Copeland, Terry Martin, John Peck, Bruce, Dan, and Wes Brown, Bill Stewart, Skip Frye, Rusty Preisendorfer, Tom Morey, Bill Hamilton, Greg Noll, Mike Haley, Renny Yater, Gene and Peter Van Dyke, Robert “Wingnut” Weaver, Randy French, Danny Brawner, Pat O’Connell, Bill Stewart, Jennifer Smith, Jim Driver, Evan Slater, Doug Haut, Nat Young, Pat O’Neill, and Sam George. Directed by Walter Georis, who is also well-known as the guitarist for The Sandals.
